WTF Is Up With American Idol?
I have never seen it. But my daughter and friends watched it downstairs. I was IMing with my 15 year old niece all night she was so nervous. I felt obligated to talk to her because her parents are in Australia. Two other friends were texting me. Another niece was texting me. A friend was IMing me. And I have never seen the show.
I switched from MSNBC and the History Channel off and on so I could have a conversation with my niece. When they announced the winner, I KNOW I heard a swear word from downstairs. I will let it pass and assume it was not my daughter, but a friend.
So I hope the mental health of my nieces and daughter and her friends will hold up. I hope that an unnamed grown adult friend whose secret guilty pleasure is American Idol will be okay.
I, on the other hand, feel good. I was afraid that if the Mormon David Archuleta won, it might be a sign that the Mormon church was true. Whew. Safe for another season.

I love AI, and I’m not ashamed about that. This is the first season ever where my favorite actually won. I must say, I thought Archuleta was a shoe-in, so it was a bit of a surprise. I’m actually kind of disappointed, because the winners never get big, but some of the losers do.
wait a minute! you mean david cook won?! HOT DAMN!
I’ve only seen one episode ever of American Idol. It was about three or four years ago when I was traveling and my hotel roommate was obsessed, so I let him watch it. It was OK I suppose, but nothing to get excited about.
Man, I’m gonna hear it now though. I live right down the street (literally) from Archuleta Central. Murray high school is a two-minute drive away. Everything from the car dealerships to the mom & pop stores to the Hooters has Archuleta crap all over it, and since he didn’t win, there’s bound to be a riot of some kind. Maybe not though. He was just a little kid right? Don’t the runners-up also get recording contracts?
ok- Ill admit it - I watch AI… I think it would have been better for all if David A. won, because frankly, David C. is a rocker, not an Idol. The whole idea of him singing other peoples songs and being over-produced is just wrong - its perfect for D.A. Personally, though, I would only purchase and listen to David C. Our Murray Idol will be great for Disney Soundtracks and touring with Jonas Bros. (my daughter would love it).
I’m glad the show is over so we can get on with our lives here at our house. My girlfriend is obsessed with this show, well more obsessed with David Archuleta. I will have to admit here that is voice is simply amazing and I will probably buy a cd of his when he puts one out. But yes with her obsession it kind of rubbed off onto me. Hey nothing wrong with listening to Slayer one minute and than David Archuleta the next is there?
If you think about it David A. might not have won, BUt often the 2nd place person does better than the 1st.
I apparently have a serious case of schadenfreude when it comes to American Idol and people on Deal or No Deal, so I specifically watched FOX news afterwards to see what was up at the arena. I definitely had a hearty laugh and knew my self esteem was renewed for at least the next 24 hours.
Thought I did feel for the wee kids that cried when he didn’t win. Because I had the same thought as you regarding the Church impact; if I were a parent I would have leaned over and whispered, guess you didn’t pray hard enough, did you Mary? DID YOU!?
Big Buddha must be crying his eyes out in his gigantic pillow. With that thought I will sleep soundly on mine.
