Swallowing a Camera on Good Drugs
Yea! I took today and tomorrow off work. That is good item number one. Yea! I get really good drugs. That is good item number two.
Later today I am heading over to the hospital for an EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy for you Fat Doctor types). I’m not fond of the gastro who is doing this. He seemed pretty pissed when he asked me who referred me and I said, “Me.” Sorry dude, but if my neurologist says I have stopped absorbing B12, I want to double check that AND make sure there is nothing else weird going on with my gastro system. So get over it. Plus, he had no sense of humor. I like doctors with a sense of humor.
I had an EGD about five years ago when I couldn’t swallow anymore. My sister has that problem permanently, buy only where her husband Fishbone is concerned. But that is another story. It is pretty cool because you have to be awake so you can swallow the tube and camera when they tell you to swallow, so I think the drug they use is Versed. You can watch the screen and see what they are doing, but you don’t really remember much after. And when you get home you get a really long nap.
So double goodie about this is that my lovely VW, whom I’ve finally named Bella, needs to go in for her 5,000 mile service. So I’ll drop her off at the dealership, then have one of the service guys take me the seven blocks over to the hospital and drop me off for my procedure. Sis is taking off work early, and the nurse, or me if I’m awake enough, will give her a call when I need a ride home. Piece of cake. I’ll just have to figure out how to get back to the dealership tomorrow to pick up Bella.
So have a great day all. And if you read any Tweets after, oh lets say 8pm tonight, don’t believe a word of it.

Good luck on the procedure. I have heard about a side effect of versed and losing your short term memory around the procedure (I did a lot of research on it when my father was in surgery)… so its a good thing that you posted this blog so you don’t call the police tomorrow morning claiming that someone stole your car.
I would have thought it was the cambells soup - that’s a great idea, and I don’t really think I am OCD (….or am I).
I’ve been itching for an excuse to have any endoscopic procedure ’cause the drugs seem soooooo good. Damn my healthy GI tract. I guess I’ll have to wait for my first screening at age 50. Results? Please post.
How did it go? I had a freaky trip the first time they gave me during a spinal injection about organ monkeys.
