Sprint Sucks-Vendor Vent of the Day
Sprint sucks. This my vendor vent of the day. Sprint sucks.
Almost two years ago, I got a Sprint datacard plan for my laptop. It was about the only option I had for high-speed internet where I live. And when I decided to give up my free work phone because no texting was allowed, I went with Sprint cell service because I already had a Sprint account set up and my credit was pre-approved. (I was refinancing my mortgage at the time and didn’t want a ding on my credit.)
I never get calls dropped, but the sound quality is pretty crappy, all things considered. But why my vendor vent of the day? I don’t get voice mail messages. People will call and ask why I didn’t call them back. They left a message. This happens often.
I called Sprint a few months ago and they said, believe it or not, that it was necessary to take out the phone battery once a week and leave it out for five minutes, then put it back in. Excuse me? I’ve had cell phones for 10 years and never had to do this? So I have been doing that.
It isn’t working. So now they have tech people supposedly working on it. So I signed up for, and am paying for a service with voice mail, and I am not getting it. And if I cancel my service before the contract is up, I will have to fork over a big chunk of change.
So Sprint sucks. The only thing they do right is, to the best of my knowledge, is they don’t outsource their customer service to India.

I had a long battle with Sprint before I ended up forking over the cancellation fee.
After years of being a very happy Sprint customer, I started having horrible reception and lots of dropped calls…which was particularly shitty because I was an on-call rape crisis counselor. If I got a crisis call at 3:00am I had to LEAVE my apartment to take a call!
I finally bitched enough that they sent a tech out to my apartment; a cell tower had been moved and I wouldn’t have improved cell service for another year. WHAT?! No letting me off my contract with out a) death or b) deployment. My official response was “That’s CRAP.” The customer service rep said, “Well it’s the crap you signed.” Haaaaaaaate Sprint!
Interesting. After working out the datacard bugs on my laptop, that has worked out fine. But I have a phone for me and one for my daughter and I don’t know if I can afford the $400 dollars worth of cancellation. I read a few months back that Sprint was dropping customers who complained to much and called tech support too much. Maybe I’ll try that route
I had a bad time with Sprint too. My phone reception was fine, and in fact, that’s the one thing I have to complain about my new provider T-Mobile, cause I get poor sound quality on my calls. But with Sprint, my problem was that there was no reliability in my texting. I’d send a text and maybe the other party would get it, or maybe they wouldn’t, or maybe they’d get it a couple days later! Sometimes they’d only get half the message. Since 98% of what I do with my phone involves texting (cause I kind of have a phone phobia), that was not acceptable. So I leapt away as soon as my contract expired.
You might try contract swapping. There are websites where you can sell or swap your phone contracts, cause, believe it or not, some people actually do want Sprint. I know, it’s hard to believe, but I actually know one person who loves them.
Ten years with Sprint and never even the slightest issue. Of course, I’m apparently in the minority. In that ten years, I’ve had maybe 5 dropped calls, and the only place I haven’t been able to get service was driving through Wyoming. My experience is not the standard though, but I feel lucky and grateful.
Some phones need more “rebooting” than others. Actually, if you do it once a week, just turn the thing off, then back on again. If you really get frustrated trade your phone (perhaps a Samsung or LG?) for a Sanyo. They only makes phones for Sprint and they are excellent.
FYI Love your blog and I have blog rolled you.
I got my sprint cell phone almost 2 yrs ago and as soon as my contract is up in a couple of months I will never be a Sprint customer again. I get maybe one bar of reception in my house. To talk on the phone and know that the call won’t be dropped and will be clear I have to go outside to find a good spot where I have bars. Sprint is the most ridiculous company!!
