Some Lovely Holiday Gift Ideas
Looking for some great gift ideas for Christmas / Hannukuh / Kwanzaa / Solstice? I’ve put together a few items that I have either received, given, or purchased for myself that you might find useful. Remember, it is about what the recipient would enjoy…thus the variety I have included.
I would guess that you can find most items on Amazon.com, or by looking them up on Google. I have given websites if I think the item might be difficult to locate by those means. Have fun.
A Woman’s Heart. A great collection of Celtic music that I first heard while visiting The Black Rose in Boston (best clam chowder I have ever had).
Shocking Roulette, available from one of my new favorite websites, PerpetualKid.com. Test your nerves by placing your finger in one of the slots, hoping you aren’t the next victim to receive a shock. A great party game.
PostSecret. A variety of books are available through their website or Amazon. Each Sunday the web site updates with a slew of postcards, usually homemade, that people have sent in with their deepest, darkest secrets. It is at the same time hilarious, profound, disturbing, and enlightening. Check out the web site first, then buy one of the books.
Hillary Clinton Nut Cracker. I actually like Hillary, but this nut cracker just cracks me up…and the nuts. Imagine that.
Choose the Left Ring. You almost need to live in Utah to appreciate this one; although former-Mormons from around the world will appreciate it. Unless, of course, you are a gay man. Then you can stick to the CTR ring. (And email me if you don’t know why.)
Pee Wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special. Before VCRs were offered at an affordable price, I would set my alarm on Saturday mornings back in the 80s to watch Pee Wee’s Playhouse. This DVD is a must for any fan.
Peculiar People | Mormons and Same-Sex Orientation. A book whose title pretty much sums it up. I have purchased so many copies of this book to give my Mormon friends and relatives that I can’t keep track. I believe it is still available through Signature Books.

Road to Zion: Travels in Church History DVD. Even devout Mormons might get annoyed with the overly emotional host, having spiritual experience after another on her historical journey through the structures and cities of early Mormondom in the US. But I loved this and watched it on KBYU when it ran earlier this year. Me and history. And remember the little people. No matter what you might think about the Mormon church or its early leaders, 99.9999% of the pioneers were normal, like you and me, who gave up everything for something they believed in. How many of us would do that today? Available at Deseret Book.
Rosie O’Donnell, Friend of Barbie Doll. I gave this to my aunt quite a few years ago, but I believe it is still available today. I paid around $20, so look and you should be able to find it at that price. Just fun, and funny. “Friend of Barbie.” Who knew?

If you are following the new recently according to Rose’s new book her and ‘Barbie’ are not exactly friends these days…. LOL
