She Didn’t Take Her Blanket
Posted on February 29th, 2008 by Sterkworks
She left for a friend’s birthday slumber party before I got home from work tonight. And in the middle of the living floor, I found her blanket. Not just any blanket, THE blanket.
She didn’t take her blanket; the one that has gone everywhere with her since birth. Every room of the house. Every crib and bed she has ever slept in. Every city we have ever gone to on vacation. Every sleepover, every sick night, every nap, every car, every trip, even to grocery stores.
She didn’t take her blanket, so I texted her to let her know it was still at home. And she responded, “I know.”

Wow how they grow up. I love the response ” I know” It’s so, a new day.
She’s growing up, huh?! How are you doing? I am heading to the shore tonight, but am bringing my “blanket” & pillow. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone I still have a blanket. Actually, Sandy already brought it down to the shore, I’m leaving shortly to meet her.
Congratulations–your daughter is now more grown up than I am! I wish I had been able to break the blanket habit that early in life. It would have saved me from a lot of teasing by every boyfriend I’ve ever had.
Yay for growing up! Even long after I lost my dependency on my blanket, I still have it, and I still use it sometimes. My boyfriend thinks it’s a little weird, but apparently he loves me anyway
