Queen Latifah, Call Me

So the writers’ strike begins today. I am sad for myself because I won’t get my evening dose of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. (Where else shall I get my news?) But in all honesty, good writing runs the entertainment world, doesn’t it? All other talents use good writing as the foundation for their projects.

At first, I wanted to signal Tina Fey to call me and hang out. But then I saw a clip of her on the picket line with the other writers of 30 Rock. Good for her. I certainly can handle some inconvenience in my daily schedule so that talented individuals, whose work I benefit from immensely, are treated fairly. So Tina, stay on the line. I’ll go to Ms. Latifah.

Queen LatifahQueen Latifah, call me. Just come hang out with me for a day and see what a boring Utah life is like. You will probably have some free time, because whatever projects you are working on will be held up because of the strike. You can probably get cheap airfare if you book it before Thanksgiving. (And whatever you do, don’t fly Delta…that story will have to wait for another post.) To entice you, let me share with you some highlights from a day in my life.

Things I Usually Do On A Typical Weekday

  • Wake up at 5am
  • Commute one hour to work
  • Work from 8am to 4:45pm and take a lunch about two days a week
  • Check CNN and MSNBC online to see if Bush has blown up Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, or New Orleans
  • Commute one hour home
  • Help daughter with homework for between one and two hours
  • Make dinner twice a week
  • One load of laundry
  • Catch a rerun of Family Guy
  • Try to be in bed by 11pm

Things I Rarely Do On A Typical Weekday

  • Get more than five hours straight of sleep
  • Feel like I get paid what I am worth
  • Get used to my commute
  • Go all day without swearing

Tempting, isn’t it? You don’t have to decide right away. Take some time. But call me. We’ll talk.
