Move Over Warren G. Harding
Move over Warren Harding. You will soon lose your place as the worst president ever of the United State of America.
I certainly believe that history is the truth by which we judge our past presidents. Warren Harding was ranked as the worst US President in these surveys:
- 1948 Poll from Arthur Schlesinger survey of 55 historians and political scientists, for the New York Times Magazine.
- 1968 Poll from the Organization of American Historians survey of 571 historians.
- 1982 Poll from Murray-Blessing survey of 846 historians.
On January 20, 2009, George W. Bush IS history. I can’t wait for that first poll to come out that shows him as the worst president ever of the United States of America. Most of us already know this. I’m sure Warren Harding will breathe a sigh of relief from the great beyond. It was bad enough that President Harding died in office, but to live (or actually be dead) this long with the moniker of worst president must be hard.
Of course, one survey of historians (2000 poll from C-SPAN of 58 historians) shows James Buchanan as the worst president. That is okay too, after all he did send an army to control those pesky Mormons in Utah. But after President Buchanan came our greatest president ever, in my opinion and in all four of the surveys I have referred to, President Abraham Lincoln.
Either way, I look forward to having our greatest president, Barack Obama, follow our worst president, George W. Bush. January 20th can’t come soon enough.
