I Fired You, Deseret Book
I bought one stinking lousy Mormon Christmas present for a friend last year. And I got on the Deseret Book email list. (I hope she at least liked the movie.)
Multiple times since the holidays I have politely hit the unsubscribe button at the bottom of each and every Deseret Book email spam message. But those wacky Mormon book publishers, they just were too slow.
Finally last week, I responded to their email as such:
I have repeatedly asked for you to stop sending me email. You are breaking Utah and Federal law. Need I say more?
Today at 2:02 pm I got a reply:
You are not a member of any of the selected lists.
Today at 2:03 pm I got another reply:
Your email address has been removed from these 2 lists:
* dbcustomers
* excel
Nine months later. That is about the same amount of time it finally took them to get my name taken off the Mormon church records. At least they are consistant.

Wah! How did you get of the church records????? I have been trying FOREVER!!! Bastards keep finding me and telling me I am a member. You’ve got to tell me how you did it? Also, do you know if you can get off their freakish baptism for the dead lists? I don’t want to work so hard to get off their lists while I am alive only to have them re-baptize me when I die!
here is a really good link that I used to remove my records from the mormon church

I really recommend everyone to get their records removed so you aren’t a statistic for them any longer. Maybe if enough people remove them than they will realize that there isn’t as many mormons as they might think.
just wondering.. how did you get on their list in the first place?
you didn’t… you did! you gave them your REAL email address!
Weird, it only took me about a month to get my name off the church records. Of course, I don’t really think it’s “off”. I just think they moved my file into the file cabinet labeled “To be baptised post mortem”.
And P.S. I have two addresses for this very reason. One email goes to actual friends and family and other real people contacts. The other email goes in any online form and to any store that requests it. Works wonders.
@dmx and @Sra. Yes, they had to email the purchase receipt, so I had to use my real email. @bunnie thanks for the great future post idea. How I finally got the Mormon church to ex me…(lets just say taking in a girlfriend and wearing an ankh earring helps).
You are hilarious. I want you to solve all my problems for me
It took several years for me to get off Deseret Book’s email list so 9 months is awesome. Congrats!
You know, the Church claims 12 million members. Recent statistics done by independent sources say the number is realistically around the 4-5 million mark, and plummeting like a skydiver without a parachute. I think that once you’re a member, you’re always a member, regardless if you’ve been “removed” from The List. Sra is right, it’s just a different filing cabinet.
