I Can Imagine an Obama America

Hillary has been my man, but Obama is going to be my president. I so look forward to an Obama America.

I look forward to traveling abroad again and not having to pretend to be Canadian. I look forward to the peace of mind in knowing I can’t get fired again for being a lesbian. I look forward to an America where I no longer have to hope for the kindness of an OBGYN to get my future ex-partner into the room for the birth of my daughter. I look forward to not worrying anymore about those who I have never even met, and how they can take care of the their families without jobs or health care or hope. (Yea, I do, because I really do believe “It Takes a Village.”)

And most of all, I look forward to the re-emergence of a document that has been missing for too long. The Constitution of the United States of America. I hope we can get the foot prints off of it. I hope we can dust off the cobwebs and straighten out its wrinkles. I hope our founding fathers and mothers, who gave up everything for this country, will know that it was not us, the common people, who did it. That it wasn’t us who so disrespected that document and the ideals within for which they gave their lives.

I have always felt an honest man or woman cannot have a career in politics. I hope I am wrong. Obama, please continue to stay above the fray. Thomas Jefferson dissed John Adams. It began that long ago. It continued through the decades. Yet tonight I am hoping that one man, a great man, will bring back that hope that justifies my tears when I see the American flag, that makes me say “thank you” when I see a military man or woman in uniform, whom I have never met before. That makes me feel justified in my Pollyanna outlook on our country and what it can truly be.

Obama, don’t let us down. You have lifted us so high. We like it. We love it. We embrace it. I truly believe that a Mormon scripture has come to pass, that the “constitution will hang by a thread.” And we are there. Mr. Obama, bring us back from the brink.

  5. Nicely put. I have a lot of hope right now, which is a really good feeling.

  6. The Constitution is hanging by a good and sturdy rope. It won’t be long before it is hanging by a thread after Obama is elected.
