How Dare He
President George W. Bush did not go to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier today. He was busy entertaining German Chancellor Angela Merkel somewhere in bloody Texas. And he probably screwed that up too by trying to give her another impromptu shoulder massage. Ms. Merkel is a smart woman and would certainly understand if he had to jet off to Washington for the day to do “presidential things.” Come to think of it, I’m sure she would have PREFERRED it if Bush left her for the day.
So the president who spins everything and calls us traitors if we disagree with him, ignores what he pretends to be the most important group of Americans…soldiers…Veterans…and on their holiday of all things. That is not just stupid, it is evil.
I have never been asked to lay down my life for anything. There are things for which I would, of course…my daughter comes to mind. But men and women for centuries have been doing it for an ideal. And when walking through the Old Granary Burial Ground in Boston, one realizes that had the tides turned in a different direction, the individuals who gave their lives to establish a country would be remembered as traitors rather than heroes. Veterans of all eras are normal people who do extraordinary things.
And when our “leaders” should be making sure our Veterans have excellent health care, housing, education, jobs, and great lives, they instead wander in the desert and clear brush. And they can’t be bothered to show up for five minutes to pay their respects to those who do what we haven’t.
How Dare He.

This is so true and so shameful. I live in a military town. My husband is a veteran and several of my coworkers are veterans. One of my co-workers is a retired Colonel and you should see the hoops he has to go through to get adequate health care.
