Hail to the Chief

I once asked a boss if we got to take work off on Presidents Day. His response? “We don’t get my birthday off, and I’ll be damned if I let you take theirs off.” Okay.

It really does seem like a lame holiday. Maybe that is just because I have never worked anyplace that gives me the day off. And the liquor stores are closed. And geez, those dudes already get their names on coins and dollars and airports and buildings.

Photo courtesy Historical DocumentsMy favorite president is Abraham Lincoln. He held a country together while dealing with huge bouts of depression and great personal loss. Many people say George Washington is their favorite, but he seems a bit to egotistical to me. My second favorite President of the United States? Al Gore. Worst president? Need you even wonder?

I figured that early on in the history of our country, our presidents were mostly farmers. I was surprised to see that even in the early days of our country, presidents were lawyers first. Seems a little disturbing to me. At least the first president I ever voted for wasn’t a lawyer–Ronald Reagan (I was Mormon at the time and have since repented).
