Giving Notice

Yesterday at 9am I asked my boss for a few moments. I went into her office, closed her door, and very professionally told her I had received two job offers and accepted one of them. She in return was professional, but didn’t even ask why I was leaving. At first, I thought that was odd. Maybe I still do. But something inside tells me she knows the reason I am leaving.

In usual style when we met as a team, I was the one supporting the others, being the leader, telling them it would be okay, etc. The president and two executive VPs were then told, which now means there is a cone of silence covering me as far as they are concerned. They will probably not speak to me again. For many people, when they give their notice, those three take it as a personal insult. I like them all, so that is a bit sad for me.

My boss actually asked me if I wanted to send out the email announcing my departure. WTF??? No, once again, I am not paid to do your job. So she sent out the email at about 4:00pm; the time I was leaving for the day. And in classic cover one’s butt style, she implied a reason for me leaving that was not the reason.

Enough people know the real reason I am leaving. And that is good enough for me. Exit interview? Sure, I’ll tell them, but I suspect the exit interview write-ups go into a file drawer, or the garbage can.

I am excited to start my new job in two weeks, and until then, will enjoy my friends and of course, have a lot of lunch appointments.
