All Grown Up

She has always loved graphic tee shirts. Always. That is her wardrobe. But the day after getting her pre-seventh grade highlights and lowlights, something clicked.

tns.gifWe went school shopping. And she picked out “girlie” shirts. With floral patterns. And spaghetti strap camisoles. Her first step into her teenage years, which don’t start for another four months.

She promised me she won’t turn into a bratty teenager. I believe her. But who knows. And it seems like only yesterday she was a newborn in PICU, fighting for her life. And I was an over-medicated new mother wondering why god was punishing me and would take my child from me.

So I’ll take a bratty teen if that is what she turns out to be. And I’ll love whatever she decides to wear, and support her life decisions, and continue to love every stage of her life. It just seems like it happened all so fast.

But all of us parents say that, don’t we?

My only disappointment, and I dread the day, is if when voting age approaches, she registers as a Republican.

  1. Have fun with her! My girls are almost 13 now, and it’s definitely interesting, to say the least. I never know whether they’re going to be my daughters or evil changelings when they wake up in the morning. Life’s never boring :-)

(She’s gorgeous…my girls would KILL for that hair!)
